Frequently Asked Questions

Donation Questions
I would like to give to St Brendan’s…but will my donation end up in the hands of the Archdiocese? How can I be sure the money goes to this Church?

Friends of Saint Brendan is not affiliated with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston RCAB.  We are a separate nonprofit 501c3 charitable organization and all funds raised will go toward Saint Brendan Church for operating costs and repairs. If the Archdiocese should decide to close our church the money will be directed to St Brendan School.

Is my contribution to Friends of Saint Brendan a tax-deductible donation?

Yes, Friends of Saint Brendan is a tax-exempt organization, as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Friends of Saint Brendan is eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions in accordance with Code section 170. Therefore your donation to Friends of Saint Brendan is a tax-deductible donation to the full extent provided by law.

Where can I obtain a Tax Receipt for my donation?

We send acknowledgements/tax receipts to online donors via email and mail out letters to those who donate by check.

If you did not receive an acknowledgement for your donation, please first check your spam or promotions email folders as they occasionally end up there.
If for any reason you are unable to find the acknowledgement/receipt, just contact us and we are happy to send you the relevant information (just supply us with the donor name and estimated date of donation) Info@FriendsofSaintBrendan.org

Offertory
When I give in the offertory collection does my money go to St. Brendan’s ?

Since July 2023 they have begun separating funds for recordkeeping, so that we may reach our required annual offertory goal.  So money collected will be recorded under the church it is collected in (money placed in baskets at Saint Brendan Church will be recorded in the weekly St. Brendan Offertory.
**For online giving you must make a note in the memo section stating your church for it to be included in the record**

note: The offertory collected at both churches goes to the operating costs of the parish as a whole.

Assistance and volunteering
How Can I Help ?

Attendance at weekend Masses helps immensely as  our average weekly attendance numbers are recorded. So go to Mass and bring a friend.

Donate: Any donation however small can help  us reach our goal

Volunteer your time and talents (contact us at  Volunteer@FriendsofSaintBrendan.org with questions or to volunteer)

  • Help deliver the FoSB Newsletter to neighbors – saves money on postage and helps us to spread the word about Church events, news and opportunities.  It would simply involve occasionally passing out informational flyers to people on certain selected street(s).
  • Recordkeeping – Good with computers? Excel? Recordkeeping? We are looking for a few more people to work behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly.
  • Fundraising events – contact us to help out with specific fundraisers (we are always happy for more volunteers!)
  • Lector or Eucharistic minister -volunteer to be a lector or Eucharistic minister at the church.
  • Friendship Social – help with Friendship Social Events that Dennis Walsh organizes at least twice a year
  • SVDP Fr. Fratus Food Pantry – help with the SVDP Food Pantry as they collect and supply food to local families in need
  • Outreach committee – be part of the Outreach Committee as they plan theme Masses and encourage people to come back to St. Brendan.
  • Toddler playgroup – Still hoping to bring the playgroup back. If you are willing to be involved in helping to organize and plan for that contact us and we will connect you with the group working on that.

Are you a contractor/licensed tradesperson, electrician/plumber/carpenter …please reach out to to discuss ways you can help.

I want to be more involved- How can I be more involved with Friends of Saint Brendan?

Come to our next meeting where we discuss our plans and are always open to new ideas.  We meet Wednesday evenings twice a month in Fr. Lane Hall

You can also subscribe to the newsletter/blog to keep up to date with news and events- FoSB meeting dates/reminders are shared here

Other Questions
Will any repairs be done on the Church ?

According to the agreement, we were first tasked with raising $220,000 in combined offertory and fundraising, to cover estimated operating costs of the church.  Thanks to our many generous parishioners we succeeded and this fiscal year ending in June, Friends of Saint Brendan was able to donate $71,000 to St. Brendan Church, which when added to the St B annual offertory collection, allowed us to cover the estimated operating costs of Saint Brendan Church and thus keep Saint Brendan open.

We are tasked with continuing to do so each year as we also work on funding this next phase in our journey which will finally involve more of a focus on specific much needed repairs to the Church (plastering/painting of Fr. Lane Hall (the Church Hall) was begun in May 2025, however work was then stalled by the Pastor.)

*We continue to work toward completing basic repairs to the church, however all work must receive the permission of the pastor. We are now hopeful that a new pastor will be more open to allowing such repairs.

What are the goals set forth by the plan? Are we meeting our offertory and attendance goals?

These past 2 years we have met our goals (see previous question). However we are always working to increase Mass Attendance- so nice to see the community gather together in our beautiful Church !
